The Stock Market In 2009

Anyone in the financial industry right now is getting the same questions: “Should I stay out of the stock market in 2009?” The answer is no! It is not a bad time to invest. The key is to know your limit, and be aware of what you are getting yourself into.

It is a very volatile time in the market. One day we see huge jumps, the next day things have bottomed out again and the news is depressing. There has been a significant increase over the past several months, and many people feel like we are on the road to recovery from the financial meltdown. Many people were lucky enough to get in at the bottom, while most people were scared to touch the market. The important thing investors need to realize right now is that the market has not made a full recovery.

There are tons of businesses out there that have not even begun to recover, and their stock prices show it. To survive, a lot of companies had to take loans, go into debt, suffered through mergers, and barely survived. Luckily they did, but they are just beginning to enter the long, tedious process of rebuilding. These are specifically the stocks you want to look for. Although it is somewhat risky, because some of these companies are still teetering on the edge and could be easily pushed over it, investing in some still-struggling companies who made it through alive is precisely where you put your money.

Being overly cautious is not how you want to proceed at this time. If you’ve done your research and feel strongly about a company’s ability to increase their share price, you need to get in, and get in fast. While this recovery is slowly happening, others are doing exactly what you are contemplating and getting in the game.

Don’t miss the opportunity if you feel strongly about a stock, take the risk and also give yourself a break if it doesn’t work out. In a risky economic time, every choice is not going to be perfect, you’re just trying to find a few gems that you can buy low and hold on to for a while.

So many people are out there asking “2009: Is it a bad time to invest right now?” but they need to stop asking questions, analyze the risk, and take the jump before they are kicking themselves for missing the opportunity.
