Dear Students

$SLAT is involved in developing and manufacturing lithium-ion batteries that are typically used for laptops, PDAs, cell phones, iPods and other electronic devices. But The Dean likes $SLAT because they are thinking BIGGER and want to take a piece of the estimated $40 billion market for lithium-ion batteries.

The potential for $SLAT‘s lithium-ion batteries is HUGE. For proof of this, just look at lithium-ion producer A123 Systems, Inc. who recently made $473.5 million on their IPO.

Another company, International Battery, which specializes in large format lithium-ion batteries, recently got a contract with none other than NASA to provide a power source for a space station. And not unlike $SLAT, this company’s product is still a prototype but that didn’t stop them from taking home an additional $2.1 million last month in a contract to develop batteries for vehicles for the United States Army.

$SLAT is aiming high with their cathode based lithium-ion batteries for use in a line of LiV electronic and hybrid vehicles. The Dean thinks this could be an extremely lucrative venture because Automotive News says that these types of rechargeable fuel cells for electric cars can cost $8,000 to $10,000 each.

In recent news, you’ll find that countries like France are pouring $3.6 billion into electric cars and battery product for such greener vehicles over the next few years. And electric car companies like Tesla just received $465 million from the Obama administration to build an electric car and they could be on the lookout for batteries like those made by $SLAT to propel their gas-saving machines.

To top it all off, giants like Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) are also getting involved in the greener car market and you know a company worth more than $200 billion has the capital to invest in batteries, charging equipment and hybrid technology to make this a success.

The Dean thinks that there’s so much excitement about hybrid and electric cars that $SLAT could RISE to the occasion and show up clean and GREEN.

Happy Trading, The Dean
