Dear Students

The Dean’s been teaching the entire student body about $IVOB‘s huge, and possibly expanding, market. More often than not, the figure of 150 million infertile couples it thrown around and many may not consider male factors as a cause.

This morning, in an article, “Linking Male Infertility and Disease Risks,” The Wall Street Journal writes, “Little is known about the underlying causes of male infertility, even though it occurs as often as infertility in women.” Talk about a power statement. In fact, this shouldn’t be news to students who’ve been doing their homework on $IVOB because The Dean has mentioned that male factors account for 30% to 40% of infertility in couples.

The article goes on to discuss genetic factors as the cause of 25% to 50% “or more” of male infertility cases. The Dean believes this could be an indication of why certain areas of the world tend to have consistent or increasing rates of infertility.

Another cause of infertility in males is varicose, or enlarged, veins in the scrotum, which can lead to a decrease in sperm production. Among other causes are obstructions in the male reproductive tract as a result of birth defect or an infection, and hormonal problems.

According to the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), about 15% of U.S. couples are infertile, with one third attributed to male factors, another third due to female factors, and the other piece of the infertility puzzle is a combination of problems in both partners.

Overall, Dr. Lamb, professor of urology and molecular cellular biology at Baylor College of Medicine, believes that diagnoses for male infertility just may be the symptoms of the underlying genetic cause.

As time moves on, and men and women become less mindful of their health, The Dean believes that more causes of infertility will arise and $IVOB‘s market will continue to grow.

Happy Trading, The Dean
