Honor Roll Stocks: $MIPI, $BGP and $TXCC
February 18th, 2010 at 4:33 pm Posted byHere are The Dean’s Honor Roll Stocks of the Day:
$MIPI
Molecular Insight Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: MIPI) is a development stage biopharmaceutical company, which focuses on the research, development, and commercialization of molecular imaging pharmaceuticals and radiotherapeutics primarily in the areas of oncology and cardiology in the United States. $MIPI hasn’t released news in nearly a month, prompting The Wall Street Journal and StreetInsider.com to note its “unusual” movement today. Trading nearly 25 times its 3 month average volume, $MIPI moved up as much as 93% from yesterday’s close, before simmering down to take a 47.06% gain for the day.
$BGP
As of January 31, 2009, Borders Group (NYSE: BGP) operated 518 superstores under the Borders name, including 333 in the United States, 117 primarily in the United Kingdom, and 3 in Puerto Rico. $BSP also has 386 mall-based and other small format bookstores comprising stores under the Waldenbooks, Borders Express, and Borders Outlet names, as well as Borders-branded airport stores. What The Dean’s trying to say is, if you’ve never heard of $BGP, pick up a book or something! $BGP has been gradually moving up, even since William Ackman of Fast Money called a potential bankruptcy for the company a “low probability event.” Either way, $BGP‘s movement today was significant, trading more than 4 times its 3 month average volume and moving up 23.48%.
$TXCC
Although the name of this company strikes The Dean as something for a RuPaul start-up, TranSwitch Corporation (NASDAQ: TXCC) designs, develops, markets, and supports integrated digital and mixed-signal semiconductor devices for the telecommunications and data communications markets worldwide. Tuesday afternoon, $TXCC and VoiceAge announced “they are increasing their cooperation to accelerate the global adoption of high-definition (HD) voice in wire-line and wireless carrier networks.” Although this news didn’t affect trading activity Tuesday or Wednesday, $TXCC traded more than 8 times its 3 month average volume and moved into the green by 23.12% today.
And although this Dunce may have made shareholders sick to their stomachs, that’s the only green they saw today:
$SPZR
Spatializer Audio Laboratories, Inc. (OTC: SPZR.OB) previously engaged in the development of audio signal processing technologies and products for consumer electronics, entertainment, and multimedia computing markets but is said to currently have no significant operations. This company hasn’t had news since the end of December and haven’t seen positive news in much longer than that. Trading only 5,000 shares, $SPZR fell down 80% today—SPAZ!
