Dear Students

bstk4This morning, $BSTK announced the receipt of an important utility patent (US 7,604,371B2), which is said to “bolster” the company’s already powerful intellectual property portfolio. The Dean thinks this is exciting news because this patent adds to the dozen or so he already taught the CollegeStock Community about in $BSTK: Patents for Profits!

$BSTK President Glenn Bushee suggests that this patent will allow the company to “aggressively defend its IP rights against “importers and several major retailers” that could have infringed upon $BSTK‘s patented technology.

If other companies, particularly major retailers or brand names in the illumination and tactical illumination markets, have in fact used $BSTK‘s patented technology, $BSTK could receive a lot of media attention and compensation for the infringement. The Dean believes this would also suggest that $BSTK‘s technology and product development is desired by other companies.

The Dean has previously suggested that a large law enforcement products company like SAFARILAND could buy any number of $BSTK‘s patents or products in their portfolio and, if a large IP infringement case is on the horizon for $BSTK, that could certainly bring $BSTK‘s products into the light to be seen by SAFARILAND and other law enforcement and personal protection companies.

The Dean knows this is speculative thinking but if you check out SAFARILAND’s website, you will notice that the company has body armor, hard armor, armor systems, duty gear and firearm accessories but no tactical illumination products in their line-up.

This morning’s press release also clarifies $BSTK‘s distribution relationship with Amazon.com as a full-line retailer, saying that Amazon would “purchase lights in quantity and ship them from their warehouses around the country.” The release also suggests that the $BSTK/Amazon.com program is not the “typical arrangement.”

The Dean believes a unique arrangement has been made with the online retailer because Amazon.com recognizes the potential of $BSTK‘s product sales, especially in the next two months of holiday shopping.

Happy Trading, The Dean
