$BSTK Could Be Coming to a Community Near You!
While the FBI claims that violent crimes dropped 1.9% in 2008, there’s plenty of news to prove otherwise for 2009. The Dean recently came across an article which discusses the concern of city leaders in Georgia. More specifically, cities like Atlanta have seen spikes in violent crimes and are beginning to realize that there is a need for change in their public safety strategy.
The article discussed a recent shooting of a champion boxer followed by the carjacking of a city council member. The city reports that it has hired more police officers but the size of the police force itself has gone unchanged for the past three years because of lack of funding.
Due to Atlanta’s crime rate sputtering out of control, hundreds of officers have been assigned to special units to fight against drugs, gang activity and drunk driving. Since there is a lack of police force available to answer citizen’s calls, The Dean believes there could be a genuine need for citizens to learn self-defense tactics.
This article also tells us that Atlanta’s burglaries are up 52% and their larcenies have risen 30% over the past 5 years. Some areas of Atlanta have violent crime rates that are 37 times the national average.
Many police departments have been faced with budget cuts and hiring freezes so they are trying to do more with less—it almost goes without saying that such communities don’t have the financial resources for purchasing alternative weapons and the costs for training that comes along with them. As The Dean has told all of his students, such alternative and less than lethal weapons come with the additional price tag of liability and damage control.
What perhaps is most revealing about this article about violent crime in Georgia, is that Atlanta isn’t even in the top 10 of the most violent cities in the United States. The Dean feels there’s plenty of potential for $BSTK to market their products and self-defense techniques in Atlanta and the other 267 cities in the country.
Furthermore, $BSTK‘s recently launched campaign to help stop violent crimes against women at the college level and New England communities could have a domino effect throughout the country. This is why The Dean feels it could take just one free training course to allow $BSTK to really shine.
