On Tuesday, HCP, Inc. (NYSE: HCP) said its reached a $50 million deal to terminate the contracts on 27 of its senior housing communities managed by Sunrise Senior Living, Inc. (NYSE: SRZ). This deal includes an immediate payment of $40 million, with the remaining balance to be paid over the next 12 months. Trading for a high of $3.72, SRZ shares gained as much as 68.32% over Tuesday’s close of $2.21.
VRS $2.52 +17.76%
Verso Paper Corp. (NYSE: VRS) is a leading North American producer of coated papers, including coated groundwood and coated freesheet, and supercalendered and specialty products. On Wednesday, August 18, 2010, in the Company’s latest press release, VRS announced the launch of its mobile website “to provide easy access to Verso information for customers and the financial community.” Despite the Company issuing news since then, VRS shares gained as much as 19.63% today.
XPRT $1.48 +13.85%
LECG Corporation (NASDAQ: XPRT) provides independent expert testimony and original authoritative studies in adversarial and non-adversarial environments to corporations and law firms, as well as local, state, and federal governments and agencies in the United States and internationally. Early last month, the Company announced its revenues for the second quarter increased 19.4% to $83.6 million, which included $24 million from its first full quarter of operations of SMART, the Company’s consulting and business advisory sector, and governance, assurance, and tax sector. Despite a lack of news, XPRT shares gained nearly 14%, closing at their high of day.

Last week, Local.com Corporation (NASDAQ: LOCM) announced the relocation of its corporate headquarters to Irvine, California to a facility 50% larger than its previous facility to “accommodate growth.” Gaining as much as 15.88%, LOCM shares moved as high as $3.94 today.
EXEL $3.32 +11.78%
Exelixis, Inc. (NASDAQ: EXEL) focuses on the discovery, development, and commercialization of small molecule drugs for the treatment of cancer, metabolic, and cardiovascular disorders. Yesterday, The Wall Street Journal reported that four insiders at the Company bought more than $1 million in company stock in the month of August. Trading nearly 2.5 times its 10-day average volume, EXEL gained 12.45%, hitting a high of $3.34 today.
